#1 A guide to free VPNs and OpenVPN [VPN]

Post by MirzaN8 » Sat Mar 24, 2018 4:20 pm

What's up everyone!
This topic is a tad weird and delicate to handle/ talk about: Free VPNs.
Some of you might have heard about OpenVPN, it's a basic VPN client. Now, many are on the hunt of free VPN services from time to time to access some webpage or geo-locked content because who would pay for a VPN, if all you do is want to watch something quickly?
The solution lies within OpenVPN and a service I stumbled upon some time ago.
This guide will explain how you can obtain a free and safe VPN with OpenVPN.

Requirements:
- OpenVPN client for Android (Playstore link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... pn.openvpn )
- AndroidOS 4.4+
- Common sense
- Patience

Step 1: Initialize OpenVPN
This goes without saying anything. Install OpenVPN and open it.
You'll be greeted by three options to choose from in the main screen:
- Private Tunnel
- Access Server
- OPVN Profile

The last option is of the interest.

Step 2: Getting a VPN server and/ or list
For obtaining a server and thus using the VPN/ activating a VPN, you can visit the following page:
http://vpngate.net/en
They have a huge list of servers to choose from in different locations, so circumventing geo-locked content shouldn't be a problem anymore.
Caution!:
ONLY select servers which offer a OPVN config file. If a preferred server is selected, click OPVN profile and you'll be brought to a download page. Select the OPVN profile containing the DDNS if possible and download it.

The reason behind selecting servers who have a OPVN config file is that it'll automatically configurate your OpenVPN-client/ app. You won't have to do anything.

Step 3: Add the server to your OpenVPN client/ app
Once downloaded, open OpenVPn again and select "OPVN Profile". Now you'll be promted to import the file, so navigate to where you have downloaded the file (usually the download folder) and select it.
OpenVPN will automatically import it and you'll just have to give it a name in the end for better orientation.
(f.e. Download a Japanese server's config file, add to OpenVPN and name it "JPN server".)
Voilà!
You're good to go and now just obtained a free and secure VPN. No hassle, no worries.
Once you're done using it, just open OpenVPN and toggle the switch to turn it off.

End Note:
- Tested on various devices and still actively using it from time to time.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
Remember: The speeds may vary, so don't be complaining!

SAFETY NOTE FOR USERS AND MODERATORS:
I do NOT endorse any specific VPN service/ client. OpenVPN happens to be the most convenient one for beginners and the average user who is not into fumbling around. This solution is superior to paid services if you want a short VPN use.
However, if you are looking for long-term security via VPN, please look up a paid VPN service via Google and conduct a thorough research!

Put this Note at the End,
& no need to add MODERATORS , just FOR ALL USERS is enough since it addresses all users including MOD's & Admin's.
& it's understood while someone is doing a tut's.

@Dark❶
Glad you like the tutorial!

I'm terribly sorry about the spelling mistakes, English isn't my first language so I might suck at times haha!
Nevertheless, I was probably rushing the articles a bit in excitement, so I was probably skipping some spelling errors while reading.

And alright, noted your advice and will continue using them moving forwards!
Just an addition to the mentions/ notes:
I felt like depending on the type of tut, I'd put the note at the top or end and explicitly mention the Moderators as they're usually a whole separate group of people to adress. :)

My friend,

See , the spelling mistakes are not so important , the Content is more important.
Well ! I just gave you a heads-up. :) ;)

For Mod's thing , thats your call , but put that note at end as it's does not look good at start.
