#1 A guide to Amplify [MAXIMIZE BATTERY LIFE] [ROOT + XPOSED]

Post by MirzaN8 » Sat Mar 24, 2018 3:34 pm

What's up everyone!
You've probably seen my Greenify-thread where I elaborate shortly, how apps stay active despite being closed via a neat background process/ service and some apps have a very poorly designed bg-process.
Greenify is able to completely hibernate apps, but not able to avoid them from restarting in case they have a function implemented to interlink&restart/ get called via the GoogleCloudMessaging-service (GCM).
Mainly, poorly designed wakelocks (app waking up the phone from idle state), bg-processes (services) and alarms (defined as calls from an app to the phone to wake it up, meaning activate the screen, f.e. when you receive a notification and thus ramp us the CPU clockspeed from deepsleep to a few MHz) are what cause battery drainage.

In this guide, we'll have a look at "Amplify" and how it can help as a sort of companion app alongside greenify to preservce battery life.
NOTE 1:
This is NOT required to do, if you already have greenify. It is however a good extension ,because it directly targets the apps services and activities and blocks them from there.
NOTE 2:
THIS GUIDE CONTAINS SOME ACTIONS DIRECTLY LINKED TO THE AndroidOS AND IT'S CORE SERVICES.
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY, THOROUGHLY AND DON'T HESITATE TO ASK QUESTIONS.
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR BRICKED DEVICES, NUCLEAR WARS OR YOUR TOASTER NOT WORKING ANYMORE.

Requirements:
- ROOT
- Xposed PROPERLY installed
- Amplify (Playstore link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... unce&hl=en )
- AndroidOS 4.4 - 7.x
- Common sense
- Patience

Step 1: Initialize Amplify
As always, first get the app and run it. You'll be greeted by a few permission requests. Grant root and let it finish up.
After that, you'll be presented the main screen of the app which shows you some stats about how many wakelocks have been allowed/ blocked etc.
For now, it'll look empty and quite "useless" so to say.

Step 2: Modify the calls
Now pull the die side menu/ hamburger menu (Yes i know, I'm a huge nerd for using that term) and walk through each section of the menu and MAXIMIZE the desired call's duration: Meaning, set its value to 99999 seconds.
It may seem stupid, but setting the value high means it'll call react every X-seconds. Thus, the higher the value, the fewer it'll react regardless of outside calls.
You might be wondering what calls to pick and I don't blame you for not knowing and I highly advise you to avoid experimenting around.
If you have Facebook / Facebook Messenger installed, you'll have to search for these values:
katana and the other is orca
Any process containing these words, you can savely select despite Amplify showing some as "not sure". Set their value to 9999 and you're good to go. Why orca and katana you wonder? -Their package name.
You can find any apps process by searching their package name;
Facebook is com.facebook.katana
F Messenger is com.facebook.orca

Step 3: Profit.
Unlike greenify, you won't need to open Amplify ever again due to its nature and mechanism. Thanks to xposed, it hooks at boot-time and blocks all blacklisted calls/ services from launching.
You can open it again though if you wish to modify any other services and/ or want to change changed values.

End Note:
- Tests have been conducted on the universal8890 board, Redmi Note 4X, Nexus 5 and Huawei P9.

And that sums up Amplify. It's quite straight forward, yet very powerful.
Please do some additonal research if you wish to amplify some service you're unsure of and always be sure of your decision.
I've been using Amplify for a long time and it is truly a powerful, yet delicate tool.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask them away!

Ciao! @MirzaN8  ,

As previous, Awesome Tutorial my friend. :D

FeedBack:
It's Perfect Again. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
hence No Need ;) :P

BUT
It is better to Move [TAG] from Left hand side to Right, as that is what is followed in Release Section.

EG:
from [MAXIMIZE BATTERY LIFE] [ROOT + XPOSED] A guide to Amplify
to A guide to Amplify [MAXIMIZE BATTERY LIFE] [ROOT + XPOSED]

ALSO
I'll be editing the topic tags (the one's which comes at bottom of topic) coz they are too many,
& some already contain or mean the same.

@Dark❶

Appreciate the feedback, thank you!
I'll note it down for the next batch of tutorials how to post them properly and what to set :D

About the tags;
Will do next time, I'll have them moved to the right
Just used to the old fashioned xda-method of having them at the left as indicators
